Can we just talk about the fact that Rami Malek struggled much of the first half of his career by being typecast SO badly that he had to ask his agent to stop sending roles his way if they were the stereotypical  “middle eastern person = terrorist” roles. He has talked openly about how disheartening that was for him, how he saw his own peers auditioning for these roles using a fake name just to avoid being typecast, and how he hoped things would change one day…

Cut to now: He’s won a Golden Globe and he’s one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, all while standing his ground and paving the way for others in the industry who struggle with their own diverse backgrounds.

 And I am just so, so proud of my sweet baby angel.

as of this afternoon (january 7 2019) at least 12 indigenous anti-pipeline activists at unis’tot’en camp in unceeded wet’suwet’en territory have been arrested by the rcmp. those arrested include molly wickham (the spokesperson of gitdumden clan) and an elder. these people will not be released, and are being taken to prince george, where they will stand before a justice of the peace. 

due to this event, it’s more important than ever to support water protectors and pipeline activsts. here is the official website for the unis’tot’en camp so you can educate yourself on the issue. also please donate if you can.

I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.

I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.

My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.

Do not give to the Salvation Army.

Being a good partner is something you have to work at. Nobody is instinctively good at considering other’s feelings all the time, everyone comes with their own baggage, we all have learned bad habits. Emotional maturity comes to those who consciously practise it. Each time you interact with someone you have the choice to act on instinct or by considering the best course of action.

I have no doubt that if you are reading this, you are a good person, with the potential to be an even better one. Always strive to be even better than you are now.
